Fired off an "I'm not impressed" email to the guy I bought it from who replied that it worked fine for him when he tried a manual lens on it before You don't have to worry, your camera is not permanently broken, and will shoot as it used to without any problem. My D40x just got this problem today and I do hope this will work as it make total sense that the gear wont turn due to so many clicks. after 10 shots, the error was back.
At first, i oppened up the body, gently or not moved the red little shit :)) put 2 exact small jets of wd-40. I noticed it was a bit resistant for a bit, but when I tried to rotate it, it suddenly loosened up.
