Nikon D90 Fee Error

This part is 1-1/2" long and very thin. Check that the lens' aperture ring hasn't suffered any damage.The lens looks fine as well. How does this setting get communicated to the camera for a D lens? It saved the day and saved at least hundreds of dollars in unneeded repairs that I was expecting.
