A few months ago I was shooting a soccer game and all of the sudden my camera wouldn't shoot. The solution I ended up with was just to use multiple cards, which is no great hardship. I don't know what causes the problem, although I am a firm believer in paying the absolute minimum for CF cards. Good luck and I hope some one might have a better idea for you to recover your data.
