Steve I have a Nikon D50 for several years and I am pleased with it. If an approved card gives the "CHA" indicator contact the cards manufacturer for assistance. My camera as at 60K+ images. Write protection enabled.
When this happen the last time the camera put the pics in a DCIM folder that I could see on the computer and was able to retrieve the pics that way. - Reformat card in camera to start over.
- Then the CHA error comes up.
- Get a can of air for dusting off cameras and blow the inside out.
- I've seen that a few sent their D70 off for repair and when it got back nothing really changed except they spent some cash and were without the camera for six
- Hasnt come back since cleaning.

phew! It states the FOR/CHR error is caused by loose connection between a circuit board at the bottom of a body and a flexible cable that is connected to the CF card In any case, it's a card error. I was able to correct the problem by using a card recommended by Nikon.
My own experience was like the poster above. thanks! I then noticed I was getting a CHA error. However, if you hold the shutter release button, it will take pictures after about a 3-second delay.
when I take pictures I take them because I want to PRESERVE the MOMENT..... If your income depends on the thing by all means do what you must, but to broad-stroke it as "officially unreliable" strikes me as a bit over the top. I'am mad.
