I hope this help out! It really was an extremly gentle rotation of the lens which didn't feel as though it could possibly have done any damage to the camera. I couldn't wait to send off this POSITIVELY first comment ever. I have a Sony Cyber Shot and was about 10 seconds away from buying a new camera till I saw your site.
- How feasible is it to reconnect the ribbon cable connectors on it?

Yes I tried some light machine oil on my Coolpix L6, it didn't help. Just towards the left (nearest) side in front of the motor, there is a small rectangular (1mmx5mm?) opening where I could reach in with a small screw driver and laboriously rotate, If the above fixes didn't work for you, then please read through the reader's comments, especially the newer ones.
