well, by the 7th (10th?) time, I tried hitting it from the top right side, and, miraculously everything fell back into place. All the internal circuitry and mechanical parts were covered with bits of tobacco and food debris. I had to apply a good amount of force and was afraid i would break the camera, but after doing this several times, the lens did click back into place.
