There is an update to the 8800 where they addressed a few issues:Changes to COOLPIX8800 firmware version 1.4The following changes have been made with firmware version 1.4._ A problem that caused Research leads me to think it is the lens motor, because I can hear it "whirring" but it will not move the lens. Since Nikon has discontinued the camera (I wonder why?), I doubt new improved units will be designed and manufactured just to retrofit old models. - Ok, then unfortunately it seems that the built-in memory has become corrupted and the pictures are no longer accessible.Do not format the card - this will make it more likely that
