When I went to use it the light was on and the screen said there was a lens error. HOWEVER, there's obviously some potential for damaging your camera by using this method. when it wants to extend but it cant do so, i fix it by patiently pulling on the lens. You especially might consider this if the lens barrel appears obviously damaged, bent, or crooked such as from a fall. We've tried pushing the lens (because it is jammed halfway through zooming) and also replacing the battieries, but nothing has even made the screen go on. My camera was filled with sand...somehow, and the lens had got stuck and wouldn't retract. Never have problems when I have the other battery in the camera, so think the battery doesn't hold a strong enough charge to operate the lens.
