To solve this go to setup menu ->non-cpu lens data and setup a lens. (refer to page 211 of your manual) You lens have a aperture ring and its not locked Still Fee error code. I emmidiately felt hope coming back to me. But this time no luck….

I bought one used in mint condition; after the first shutter release after turn on, it will often give the ERR message. If I focus the shot in manual the switch it back to auto it will act like its trying to focus then stop waayyy out of focus. How do I fix it? Finally I picked out the battery and this solved the problem.
Switching the camera off and on sometimes helps sometimes does not. If I choose, say f4 at x shutter speed, the exposure is DEAD on accurate with all of the lenses; including the one that throws the "ERR" error.When I press the I read on a forum recently about a pro sports tog who had a D3 and a 400mm which gave an ERR code when combined together.
